Please note this hike is now fully booked.

NB. Please note this hike is not suitable for first time or non regular hikers.

The Bluestack Mountains, also called the Croaghgorms, are the major mountain range in the south of County Donegal.

The highest peak is known as Croaghgorm 674m.

There terrain is tough and unrelenting and trackless. However the rewards are immense for those who are prepared to venture into these stunningly beautiful hills.

Our guided hike will commence in the wild remote Reelan valley which lies south west of the town of Ballyboffey.

The route will climb initially up Glascarn Hills and then reach the summit of Ardnageer 642m with its unique feature of white quartz protruding rock. We will continue in a south westerly direction to reach the highest point in the Bluestacks, Croaghgorm.

On 31 January 1944, during World War II, a Royal Air Force (RAF) Sunderland plane crashed on the mountain. Seven RAF crewmen from 228 Squadron were killed. There is memorial plaque in their memory.

Only one member of the crew survived and managed to crawl from the wreckage and make his way down to a local farmyard.
