Please note this is classed as a tough demanding hike and you should not consider signing up for it unless you are involved in regular outdoor sporting activity or undertaken a number of other hikes with us. We reserve the right to refuse application to those who do not fulfill these conditions.
Mweelrea is the highest mountain in Connacht at 814m.
It overlooks the Atlantic Ocean to the West and Killary Fjord to the south. To the east is the beautiful Delphi Valley with its three lakes. Fin Lough, Doolough and Glencullin Lough. Across the valley we see the Sheefry Hills and Ben Creggan and Ben Gorm. To the south east are the 12 Bens and Maumturks offering amazing opportunities for hiking and to the north Croaghpatrick.
Our Route.
We will climb Mweelrea from the Delphi Valley starting at Doolough. Our ascent will be via a natural grassy ledge known as "The Ramp". Upon reaching the saddle at Ben Bury we make our way to the summit on good terrain.

This is a tough demanding hike requiring a good level of fitness and the ability to cope with uneven terrain
However you will be more than rewarded with some of the finest views in the west of Ireland and will have stood on the highest point in Connacht.

Please note that in bad weather conditions we will take the alternative route to the summit, via the Silver Strand, which is less exposed and slightly shorter in distance.
Equipment required:
Good waterproof boots and waterproof clothing are essential; hiking trousers are advised, (no jeans please); spare warm layer; hat and gloves; lunch and/or snacks; water or juice drink, (1.5 litres); small rucksack to carry it all in.
