Benbulben - a guided hike up Sligo's Iconic Table Mountain (Fully booked)

Benbulben, known as Sligo's table mountain overlooking Sligo bay with commanding views across Donegal bay to Slieve League and the highest sea cliffs in Ireland. If the visibility is good we will see Croagh Patrick in the distance.

There will be opportunity to learn about the unique flora that grows high up in the north facing gullys. Plants like Tea Leafed Willow and Fringed Sandwort have been proven to have pre dated the ice age. Also learn about Roseroot, a lovely alpine type plant which traditionally has been used for medicinal purposes, and grows naturally in the arctic regions of Europe.

At the nose of Benbulben we will look down over Drumcliffe, the resting place of Sligo's famous poet WB Yeats.

Meet at Lukes Bridge our starting point at 9;30am

To get to Lukes Bridge from Sligo take the N15 northbound carriageway for 14kms and turn right at Munninane (signposted for Lukes Bridge and Ballintrillick). Drive for 2kms and take next right. This road will bring you directly to parking at Lukes Bridge. Google maps will also direct you.

The hike will take 4 to 5 hours to complete at a gentle pace.

Difficulty level: Moderate. Well within the reach of good regular walkers.

Equipment required:

Good waterproof boots and waterproof clothing are essential; hiking trousers are advised, (no jeans please); spare warm layer; hat and gloves; lunch and/or snacks; water or juice drink, (1.5 litres); small rucksack to carry it all in. Walking poles are recommended.

**NB** It is advisable to wear boots with good ankle support due to the nature of the terrain. These will assist in protecting you from injury.
