Hikes up this afternoon to the old Barytes Mines at Glencarbury on Benbulben. You can imagine the hive of activity that once took place when the mines were in full operation. The Barytes after being mined and brought to the surface was loaded into buckets and transported to the Glencar Valley via steel rope pulley system. The old machinery lies silent rusting away as the years pass.
